David Ackebo, Partner | Hannes Snellman

David's field of expertise includes international arbitration as well as domestic arbitration and litigation. He has acted as counsel for Swedish and foreign clients in complex arbitrations under various rules, such as ICC, AAA/ICDR, SCC, LCIA, SIAC, as well as in ad-hoc administrated arbitrations. David has also advised clients and acted as counsel in several high-value disputes before state courts. David’s broad dispute resolution experience includes, amongst other things, IT, telecom, construction, M&A, real estate, securities, and insolvency related disputes.

In addition to his arbitration and litigation work, David has been engaged in various insolvency related matters as well as CSR, sustainability and anti-corruption matters, including several high-profile corruption investigations.

 

Pontus Ewerlöf, Partner | Hannes Snellman

Pontus is specialized in arbitration and civil litigation and is head of Hannes Snellman’s Dispute resolution team in Stockholm. Pontus has substantial experience in international and domestic arbitration under the SCC, ICC, ICSID, LCIA, UNCITRAL rules and ad hoc proceedings as well as court proceedings in Sweden. Pontus' experience as counsel encompassing a wide range of areas such as supply, share and asset purchases, construction and real estate, finance, energy, investor-state disputes, agency and distribution, professional and product liability, regulatory issues and insurance.

Pontus is also appointed as arbitrator on a regular basis.

 

Lotta Hemmi, Senior Associate | Hannes Snellman

Lotta practices in the Dispute Resolution team and works mainly with matters relating to commercial disputes. She advises clients e.g. in the field of general contract and commercial law as well as acts as counsel in domestic and international arbitration and domestic commercial litigation. Lotta also advises on insolvency law.

In addition to her Finnish law degree, Lotta holds an LL.M. degree in International Commercial Arbitration Law from Stockholm University. Lotta has also trained on the bench at the District Court of Itä-Uusimaa.

 

Helen Lehto, Managing Associate | Hannes Snellman

Helen practises in the Dispute Resolution group of Hannes Snellman’s Helsinki offce, focusing mainly on commercial arbitration and litigation. Her experience involves disputes relating to e.g. engineering, international trade, product liability and product safety, real estate, shareholders’ agreements and share purchase agreements, as well as general contract law and regulatory issues. She has experience of arbitrations conducted under the rules of various institutes, such as the SCC, ICC, SIAC, FAI and the Swiss Rules. In the ADR field, Helen has been involved in several mediations either as mediator or as counsel. She also has experience of various expert determination mechanisms typically present in e.g. share purchase agreements.


Helen has completed a secondment at the Finland Arbitration Institute (FAI) and trained on the bench of the District Court of Ostrobothnia. She has also frequently lectured on both arbitration and of the Young Arbitration Club Finland (YACF) for several years as well as one of the very few Finnish members of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb).

 

Saara Ludvigsen, Senior Associate | Hannes Snellman

Saara is part of the Dispute Resolution team and works mainly with matters relating to commercial disputes. She assists clients with advice on general contract law and commercial risk assessments, and acts as counsel in domestic and international arbitration as well as domestic commercial litigation.

Saara also advises on public procurement matters, having experience of complex public procurement projects in the public transport sector. She represents clients in court proceedings relating to public procurement, both in review procedures before the administrative courts and in litigation before the general courts.

In addition, Saara has worked with corporate sustainability, advising and giving lectures on bribery, anti-corruption and compliance matters.

 

Markus Manninen, Partner | Hannes Snellman

Markus focuses on compliance, M&A and company law related cases, as well as general commercial dispute resolution.

Markus advises clients in their internal and external compliance investigations and enforcement proceedings. He represents clients in M&A disputes relating to purchase price adjustments, damages claims, and share redemptions. In the field of general commercial disputes, Markus has litigated and arbitrated cases relating to e.g. international trade, insurance contracts, lease agreements, and employment contracts. He has extensive experience on injunction proceedings.

Markus regularly represents Finnish and foreign corporations in both domestic and international ad hoc arbitrations, as well as in arbitrations administered by various institutional rules (including FAI, ICC, SCAI, and SIAC). In addition, Markus frequently serves as an arbitrator in both ad hoc and administered arbitration proceedings. He is repeatedly ranked in the Best Lawyers® list for Finland (Arbitration and Mediation, Litigation and Sports Law).

Markus has unparalleled experience in the field of sports law. He has advised foreign and Finnish top level sports clubs in cases relating to sponsorship, player, coach, and stadium agreements. Furthermore, he has represented a leading stadium company and a major sports gear company in different sports-related disputes. Apart from being a versatile lecturer on sports law related topics, Markus has published several articles on the subject. In addition, he serves as a CAS arbitrator and has been a member of the FINCIS’s Anti-doping Supervisory Board since 2009.

 

Mathilde Matsgård, Associate | Hannes Snellman

Mathilde specialises in commercial dispute resolution. Her experience encompasses, inter alia, the fields of general commercial law, international sales, post M&A, international investment law, complex disputes in the financial sector, construction and IT.

Mathilde currently represents parties in both national and international arbitrations as well as in litigation.

Mathilde is also a member of the advisory board of Young Arbitrators Sweden (YAS), which organises several events each year in the Swedish arbitration community.

 

Björn Morin, Legal Counsel | NCC

Björn works as a legal counsel at NCC Sverige AB, within its department of infrastructure projects.

NCC Infrastructure administers both large and complex projects, from design and construction to production and maintenance. For example, NCC builds roads, railways, tunnels, bridges, harbors, wind farms and other production facilities. Currently, Björn is responsible for all NCC infrastructure projects in the Stockholm Region.

Björn supports the organisation with legal and commercial advice in all stages of its core business, including risk assessing tender prerequisites, contract negotiations, all legal questions during the production phases of infrastructure projects, liability and warranty issues, and dispute resolution.

Prior to working at NCC, Björn worked as a dispute resolution lawyer for nearly seven years at two law firms, the latest being Hannes Snellman Advokatbyrå and the one before being MAQS Advokatbyrå. During that time, Björn acted as counsel for numerous Swedish and foreign clients in both ad hoc and institutional arbitrations as well as before the Swedish Courts.

 

Olli Mäkelä, Senior Associate | Hannes Snellman

Olli practises in the Dispute Resolution group. He represents clients in both litigation and arbitration proceedings, with a focus on construction disputes. Olli also advises on insolvency law. Olli has strong experience especially with international cases and cross-border litigation, enforcement, and insolvency matters.

In addition to his experience at Hannes Snellman, Olli has trained on the bench at the District Court of Helsinki and worked with real estate transactions at another major law firm.

 

Martin Rifall, Partner | Hannes Snellman

Martin Rifall has extensive experience in court proceedings as well as domestic and international arbitration proceedings. He has acted as counsel for Swedish and foreign companies in inter alia SCC, ICC and ad hoc arbitrations. Martin has a particular focus on construction disputes, acting as counsel for employers and contractors in large national and international construction projects. Martin also regularly advises clients in disputes relating to natural resources, such as valuable metals and minerals, natural gas and oil. He also sits as arbitrator on a regular basis.

Martin advises clients on all stages of the construction process, including tender documentation, contract drafting and negotiations. Martin regularly gives lectures on construction law.

Further, Martin is experienced in investor/State disputes, including challenging arbitral awards rendered in such disputes. He has also co-authored the Swedish chapter in The International Arbitration Review.

 

Anna-Maria Tamminen, Partner | Hannes Snellman

Anna-Maria specialises in commercial arbitration and litigation, with a special focus on complex and international disputes. She currently represents parties in national and international arbitrations, as well as administrative and civil litigations both in Finland and Sweden.

Anna-Maria has experience in mediating, litigating and arbitrating high-stakes commercial disputes often consisting of parallel proceedings in the fields of general commercial law, international sales, post M&A, competition law, international investment, energy and telecoms. She has arbitrated cases under the FAI Rules, SCC Rules, ICC Rules, Vienna Rules, LCIA Rules, DIA Rules, UNCITRAL and PCA Rules. Anna-Maria has additionally advised clients with regard to potential commercial and investment disputes and on the recognition, enforcement and setting aside of arbitral awards in a variety of jurisdictions.

Anna-Maria also acts as arbitrator in both international and domestic disputes. She regularly publishes articles, presents at conferences and lectures on dispute resolution topics.

Anna-Maria is trained in both common and civil law legal systems and is admitted to practice as an attorney both in Finland and the State of New York. Due to her training and work experience in Finland, Austria, United Kingdom, United States and Sweden, Anna-Maria has an in-depth understanding of both common and civil law legal systems.

 

Richard Åkerman, Partner | Hannes Snellman

Richard Åkerman’s practice focuses on corporate and private equity transactions. He frequently provides advice regarding corporate law, governance and transactional matters to corporations and financial sponsors. Richard has also advised many industrial and technology companies in restructuring and insolvency situations.


Richard Åkerman is the chairman of Hannes Snellman’s board of directors.
