Get to Know Us | Sini Stubb, Office Support Trainee, Helsinki

30 April 2021

Sini Stubb works as an office support trainee at Hannes Snellman’s Helsinki office. Sini started her studies at the Faculty of Law of the University of Turku in August. Sini shared with us her experiences of working in a law firm as a first-year law student.

Hi Sini, how are you?

I am doing great. The year has started off well and it has been great getting to start at my new job.  I have also tried to make the most out of all the beautiful sunny days by being outside as much as possible.

You started your traineeship three months ago. How has it been? What kind of matters have you been handling over the past few months?

The traineeship has started off well, and it has been great getting to meet all the people at work. Everybody has been extremely helpful with everything, and I have liked working here at Hannes Snellman a lot. I have been fortunate enough to start my traineeship at the office, and I believe that it has made it a lot easier to adjust to the new working environment. During these past months, I have handled a wide range of tasks from scanning or printing documents to running different kinds of day-to-day errands. Workdays can be quite different from one another, which makes the job interesting.

What is the best part and what is the most challenging part about your work?

The best part about my work is surely the people and getting to see what it is like working at a law firm. We have an amazing team, and everyone has been extremely welcoming from the very start. It is great getting to learn more about the world around business law, which is a field that I find interesting. I have never worked at an office like this before, and it has been great seeing what the everyday life is like at a firm as large as Hannes Snellman — even though it is now quite different from normal circumstances. Hopefully, we get to see more people at the office as soon as possible.

Sometimes there can be some tasks that require more time to get done, but there has not been anything too challenging yet. If something seems difficult, we try to solve it together with other co-workers. Usually, we get pretty good instructions with our tasks, and everyone has always been happy to help if any problems occur.

You are a first-year law student at the University of Turku and mentioned that this is your first time working at a law firm. How would you describe working at a law firm to a fellow student? Who would you recommend it to?

I would warmly recommend this for everyone who is even a little bit interested in working at a law firm as a student. I remember wondering whether I would be able to balance my studies and work, but everything has been working out great so far. It is great that we get to arrange our working hours flexibly, taking our studies into account. A firm as large as Hannes Snellman gives you the opportunity to see a wide range of fields that you can work in as a lawyer, and I find that very inspiring. For me, this job has also given a clearer picture of all the different work possibilities that students have at a law firm. You get to meet many new people while working and gain a lot of good experience that is surely valued.
