Klaus Metsä-Simola and Johanna Wärnberg Become Hannes Snellman Partners

30 November 2021

Klaus Metsä-Simola, an environmental law expert from Hannes Snellman’s Helsinki office, and Johanna Wärnberg, an experienced private M&A and private equity lawyer from Hannes Snellman’s Stockholm office, will become partners as of 1 January 2022.

Klaus Metsä-Simola’s practice focuses on complex environmental law, energy, mining, and natural resources projects. Furthermore, wind power development is a particular focus area of his expertise, and he has in-depth regulatory know-how and practical experience in the field. Klaus also has experience from numerous infrastructure-related projects ranging from waterways to harbours and road networks.

Johanna Wärnberg specialises in private M&A and private equity and has broad experience from advising Nordic and international private equity and industrial clients in acquisitions, sales, restructurings, carve-outs, and joint ventures. She has also provided advice on several transactions relating to infrastructure, such as wind power, electric vehicles, and biogas.

We are delighted to welcome both Klaus and Johanna to our partnership. They both are highly appreciated lawyers with an uncompromised commitment to our clients, and their pragmatic, yet analytical approach and broad skillset are highly appreciated by our clients and colleagues both within their own teams and across the firm. Their appointment further strengthens our stand in the Nordic private M&A market and our aspirations for our fast-expanding and unique Real Assets practice”, says Mikko Heinonen, Senior Partner at Hannes Snellman.

I am excited to continue heading the firm’s Environment and Natural Resources practice as a partner. As we all have noticed during the past couple of years, environmental and compliance matters have gained a significant role in all business-related decision-making and new concepts, such as energy transition, ESG, and EU taxonomy, have been introduced in the legal terminology. It has been great to notice how different practice groups at Hannes Snellman have cooperated and created new legal market solutions and practices in the evolving field of modern environmental and energy laws and how Hannes Snellman has been able to meet the renewed requirements of our clients. I am also glad that we have succeeded in providing our people with unique chances to get involved in projects that are aimed at sustainable business and energy production”, says Klaus Metsä-Simola.

I am thrilled to join the partnership of Hannes Snellman, which I find to be a unique law firm on the Nordic market as we successfully combine carrying out complex, challenging, and interesting assignments while still ensuring that our core values always remain in focus. I am honoured and proud to be part of the Hannes Snellman team, where everybody takes true ownership and delivers tailor-made solutions to our clients ensuring that each of their specific needs is met. To me as a Swedish-speaking Finn who has moved to Sweden, Hannes Snellman of course feels very much like home with offices in both Helsinki and Stockholm and with all the cross-border assignments that follow from that”, says Johanna Wärnberg.
